- 1 Onion chopped
- 28 oz (800 gram) Tomatoes peeled
- 6 oz (170 gram) Italian style tomato paste
- 2 teaspoon Olive oil
- 7 cups Water
- Pinch of Crushed red pepper
- ½ cup Red wine
- 2 tablespoon Dried Basil
- 3 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon White sugar
- 1 teaspoon Salt
Take a saucepan and add the olive oil.
Over the medium heat sauté the onions and garlic until they turn soft.
Now add the tomatoes, tomato paste, water, basil, sugar, salt, Italian seasoning, wine and crushed pepper and stir it occasionally reducing the heat to simmer, for about 3 hours.
Let it turn thick.
When it will turn glazing and thickened, switch off the flame and let it cool.
Once it is cooled, serve it with pasta or you can store it in an airtight jar for later usage.
This sauce was passed down from my aunt who stays in Sicily. I use this sauce in a number of dishes and love to spread it among my friends and near ones. Next time when you are preparing any pasta dishes, don’t forget to prepare this spaghetti sauce beforehand to make the dish more flavorful with a homely touch.
