Ingredients
  • 0.25 oz (7 gram) Packed active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cup Lukewarm milk
  • ¼ cup Warm water
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ cup Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1⁄3 cup Shortening
  • 1-quart Vegetable oil for frying
  • 5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1⁄3 cup Butter
  • 2 cups Confectioners sugar
  • ½ teaspoon Vanilla
  • 4 tablespoon Hot water
Instructions
  1. Sprinkle the yeast over the warm water and let it stand for 5 minutes or until foamy.

  2. Now in a large bowl, mix yeast mixture, milk, sugar, salt, egg, shortening and 2 cups of the flour.

  3. Mix them for few minutes at low speed or stir it with a wooden spoon.

  4. Now beat in the remaining flour at a time until the dough no longer sticks to the bowl.

  5. Knead it for about 5 minutes or until smooth and elastic.

  6. Now take a bowl and grease it with butter.

  7. Then place the dough into a greased bowl and cover it.

  8. Set it in a warm place to rise until doubled.

  9. When the dough is ready turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently rolls out to ½ inch thickness.

  10. Cut it with a floured doughnut cutter.

  11. Then let doughnut sit out by covering loosely with a cloth to rise again until doubled.

  12. Now melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

  13. Add confectioners sugar and vanilla and stir it until smooth.

  14. Then remove it from heat and stir in hot water, 1 tablespoon at a time until the icing is somewhat thin and set it aside.

  15. Now heat oil in a deep fryer or large heavy skillet to 350⁰ F or 175⁰ C.

  16. Slide the doughnuts into the hot oil using a wide spatula.

  17. Turn the doughnuts over as they rise to the surface.

  18. Fry the doughnuts on each side until they are golden brown.

  19. When fried, remove from hot oil and drain on a wire rack.

  20. Dip the doughnuts into the glaze while still hot and set onto a wire rack to drain off excess.

  21. NOTE

    Keep a cookie sheet or tray under the rack for easier cleanup.

SERVE
  1. Your doughnuts are ready to serve. If you want you can spread icing sugar over it.
